From Domestic Infelicity (@D_Infelicity), with some music from Chris, a new teaser for a brilliant feature project in the works – an animated adaptation of the Upton Sinclair novel The Jungle, profoundly still applicable to the world today.

indiewire.com names Les Conquérants  as one of the 10 must see shorts at Sundance this year. Picked from 7,675 submissions by a team of eight programmers, the 64 shorts selected to play the 2012 festival include pieces by short filmmaking heavyweights Don Hertzfeld, Nash Edgerton and Lucy Walker, along with a host of weird and wonderful films from new voices.   Indiewire names 10 that distinguish themselves by pedigree, filmmaking or storytelling technique, or just pure chutzpah.  [link]

Les Conquérants, directed by Sarolta Szabo and Tibor Banoczki, with music composed by Chris and sound design by Stefan Smith, is officially selected for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.  The film will appear in the New Frontier programme – an electrifying celebration of innovation in filmmaking, these New Frontier shorts, through bold color and thought-provoking messaging, electrify and energize the mind.

From Chris:  “Les Conquérants is a tale of the seismic collision of humankind and nature.  My aim was to incorporate the themes of this film in an overarching musical representation of this central brutal, yet beautiful, struggle for survival. In order to construct a musical connection between the body and earth, the score for Les Conquérants brings together elements of the orchestra, sound design and overtone singing. As such it’s a concoction of music swaying between shamanic utterances and the more familiar yet dislocated filmscore. The final statement from the music consists of a children’s choir singing the lyric Morte aeterna.”

There is a selection of cues from the film here.

We Need to Talk About Dad

Directed by Elizabeth Stopford, this is the story of an apparently normal family who get back together to confront terrible events from their past, which were witnessed by teenage son Henry.  It’s a dark and intriguing story and composing the score for this was an intense experience.  The film will be broadcast on Channel Four on the 21st November at 10:20pm (link).  Today the Guardian ran a feature on it here.
